iWeb Quick Tips & Tricks

What iWeb
Can & Can't Do.

iWeb is a great app for making simple to sometimes even intermediate websites but as always there's limitations...

Watch Out If You
Edit Your HTML Files!

You will lose .mac features such as comments and statistics. There are workarounds to this problem that can be found on iWebFAQ.com so don't stress out over it too much.
iWeb Site Of The Month:

Here is where a featured iWeb site will be listed every month. Sites are chosen as featured because of their individuality and creativity as well as for their attempts in making their sites look like they're not created with iWeb. Sites are chosen from the list of iWeb-created sites listed on iWebFAQ.com/iwebsites so make sure your site is listed if you want to be considered a feature on iWebFAQ.com. The site of the month for January 2009 is StopSuctionEntrapment.com

iCal

To have iCal in an iWeb page there are a few things you can do.

If you are Publishing to .mac then from iCal you can Publish your selected calendar by right-clicking on the calendar to select it then choosing Publish. Choose a name for your calendar and from the drop-down menu select Publish on .Mac select the items you'd like published along with your calendar and click the Publish button then hyperlink to your calendar or create an iFrame to the calendar or as demonstrated below you can have the calendar open in a thickbox window. When you Publish your calendar from iCal to .Mac the URL for your calendar will be http://ical.mac.com/Your-Username/Your-Calendar-Name

Or if you are Publishing to a host you can export your calendar from iCal, and create a hyperlink to the .ics file in iWeb to have your visitors download and subscribe to your calendar through iCal. If your host supports php you can use a php script to parse the ics file and display your calendar online. Here's step-by-step of how to do that...

Download an unzip phpicalendar. Read the README file in the unzipped folder to learn how to set up phpicalendar.

From iCal right-click selected calendar and choose Publish...
Choose a name for your calendar and from the drop-down menu select Publish on a Private Server.
Enter the base URL for your calendar which should be ftp://YourSite.com/phpicalendar/calendars/
Enter your host username and password in the required feilds, select the items you'd like published along with your calendar and click the Publish button. You can then hyperlink to your calendar or create an iFrame to the calendar or as demonstrated below you can have the calendar open in a thickbox window. When you Publish your calendar from iCal to a Private Server and parse it using phpicalendar the URL for your calendar will be http://YourSite.com/phpicalendar
